Kum Mahallesi Plajı Beach is a seven—kilometer sandy beach in the small town of Tashuju, 90 km from the center of Mersin.
In general, there are two beaches in Tashuju — the urban Taşucu Plajı (I will tell you about it in a separate post) and Kum Mahallesi Plajı. They are separated by a port. In this area, you can meet many Russians who work on the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant.
Kum Mahallesi can be conditionally divided into 2 parts – the central (many vacationers) and the remote desert. I’ll mark them on the map below:

You will not be able to drive along the entire 7-kilometer beach by driving onto the beach road at the port, as it is periodically interrupted by either dead ends or trenches.
Kum Mahallesi— the central part
In the central part of Kum Mahallesi beach (if you look at the map above, it is on the left) there is a residential residential area built up with 2-3 storey residential complexes. Shops and small restaurants are found periodically. The coastline is often littered, there are areas with sun beds and umbrellas, and there are quite a lot of vacationers, especially on weekends.
Along the entire beach, located opposite the residential area, there are barriers everywhere, blocking the entrance to the road running along the beach. Personally, these actions are not particularly clear to me, there is a wide road where you could park normally and at the same time not bother anyone.

If you want to go there anyway, watch the locals, they usually know the moves.

Kum Mahallesi— desert part
In the desert part of Kum Mahallesi (if you look at the map above, it is on the right) there is a large protected area where sea turtles come to leave their offspring, so most of the beach is not built up, wild and deserted.
Here, the local authorities have also closed the passage by car to the beach. All the entrances are dug with such trenches.

We were lucky, we drove to the beach through some bushes following a local car, and were able to drive onto a dirt road running along the entire beach to its most remote wild part. I will mark on the map where this passage is located (relevant at the end of July 2023).

We drove about 3 kilometers away from residential areas and found ourselves in a completely wild area where there was not a single soul. First, a hundred-meter strip of sand dunes begins from the road, and already behind it is a wide sandy beach.

Here you can easily sunbathe without clothes.

The water in the sea was clear. The entrance to the water is gentle – mostly sandy. in some places it is sandy and pebbly. Garbage was occasionally found on the beach, but not in such quantities as in the crowded part.
Of course, there are no benefits of civilization in this part of Kum Mahallesi, so take everything with you. In the evening, after 18 o’clock, a huge number of mosquitoes appear. There are especially many of them in these sand dunes.

Wild beach of Kum Mahallesi
