In the summer season of 2024, organized tourists are not yet very interested in the possibilities of living in Abkhazia with four-legged pets, according to tour operators. Basically, this service is in demand among those tourists who travel to Abkhazia by car from the southern regions of Russia, and even then it is not very popular among them. According to them, there are several reasons for this.
Firstly, as representatives of the Intourist company remind, this is due to the flight and the difficulties of crossing the border, for which the animal will need veterinary documents. Not all tourists are ready to arrange the necessary vaccinations for a pet and collect veterinary certificates due to limited time and additional costs, participants in the tourist market say.
Secondly, according to experts of the national tour operator ALEAN, there are relatively few hotels in Abkhazia that are ready to accept guests with animals. Experts of the Dolphin tour operator estimate the share of pet-friendly hotels in Abkhazia at 10-15%.
Finally, most vacationers simply do not know that hotels in Abkhazia accept pets. The accommodation facilities themselves do not actively promote this service.
MOST HOTELS IN ABKHAZIA LIMIT THE WEIGHT OF THE ANIMAL
Hotels in Abkhazia do not have special rooms for guests with pets. As a rule, rooms for accommodation with animals in hotels are provided on the ground floor, without carpet, rugs, etc., told in “Dolphin”.
According to representatives of ALEAN and Multitour companies, recreation centers and cottage complexes where there is a free territory and detached houses are most often allowed to live with four-legged people.

As in Russia, there are restrictions on the types, weight and size of animals in the hotel sector of Abkhazia. Most hotels set a limit on the weight of an animal – they accept pets up to 5 kg, ALEAN reported.
Most hotels are ready to accept guests with small dogs, less often with cats. Tour operators did not have requests for accommodation with birds (parrots) and exotic animals in the resorts of Abkhazia.
WHEN CHECKING INTO A HOTEL IN ABKHAZIA WITH AN ANIMAL, A DEPOSIT AND AN ADDITIONAL FEE WILL BE REQUIRED
Accommodation with animals in hotels in Abkhazia is most often a paid service – from 250 rubles to 1000 rubles. per day. Some hotels take a deposit (refundable deposit) – from 1,000 rubles to 5,000 rubles for the entire period of stay.
The deposit and the total amount of funds for all days of the pet’s stay are charged upon arrival, FUN&SUN clarified.
According to Dolphin, individual hotels can offer diapers, trays, and food bowls for an additional fee. However, for comfortable accommodation with an animal in an Abkhazian hotel, experts recommend taking everything you need to take care of it with you on vacation.
