What do you remember when you hear the name of the city of Orenburg?

The generation over 30 immediately has an association with the famous Orenburg shawl, which glorified this region. Many people remember the famous song by Lyudmila Zykina “Orenburg down shawl”. Someone remembers Yuri Gagarin and his phrase: “Orenburg gave me wings,” because it was in this city that cosmonaut number one graduated from the First Military Aviation School of Pilots named after K. E. Voroshilov. All this and much more is carefully preserved by the centuries-old Orenburg!

What to do in Orenburg?

1. To see the gold of the Sarmatians.

Sarmatian gold is the unique gold products of the Filippov mounds of the IV–V centuries BC, located in the Orenburg region. The collection, excavated by an expedition led by archaeologist Anatoly Pshenichnyuk in 1987-1988, became a scientific sensation of global importance. Now the collection of treasures of the “Sarmatian leaders”, presented in the “Golden Pantry”, can be seen in the Orenburg Governor’s Museum of Local Lore.

2. Cross the bridge from Europe to Asia.

The bridge is a business card of the city, allowing travelers to easily move from one part of the world to another. It does not matter at all that modern geographers have moved that very point of the border of parts of the world to another place. The bridge is a tribute to the cartographers of the XVII century, who carried out the division of Europe and Asia along the Ural ridge and the Ural River. Magnificent panoramic pictures are obtained here, which means that the place can be safely recommended to lovers of symbolism.

3. Buy the famous Orenburg down shawl.

The Orenburg down shawl is not just a souvenir that can be purchased for personal use or as a sophisticated gift, it is also art in its purest form. To determine if the Orenburg shawl is real in front of you, you need to pass it through the wedding ring. The original will easily cope with this task.

In the city museum you will learn all the secrets of the production of down products and even be able to look at a handkerchief that has been in space!
