Malaysia introduces digital arrival cards for incoming foreign citizens from January 1, 2024, they must be filled out three days before entry and presented at passport control. This is reported by Interfax with reference to the Russian Embassy in the country.
“According to the Migration Service of Malaysia, from January 1, 2024, as part of the Visa Liberalization Program, the procedure for entry of foreign citizens into the country has been changed. In particular, one of the new requirements for all arrivals, including Russians, with the exception of holders of diplomatic and service passports, as well as citizens with long—term visas or residence permits in Malaysia, was to obtain a “digital arrival Card” (MDAC),” the diplomatic mission reports.
According to the embassy, in order to issue a card, it is necessary to fill out an online questionnaire on the website of the Migration Service within three days before crossing the border. It must specify the surname and first name, date of birth, nationality, gender, passport number and validity period (at least six months at the time of entry), phone number, email address, date of arrival and departure, method of crossing the border.
“A printed card along with an identity document must be presented at border control,” the diplomatic mission notes.
According to Olga Ivanova, PR director of the FUN&SUN tour operator, tourists are already being offered to fill out a card and scan it at passport control when entering Malaysia.
“In the border control area at the Malaysian airport, tourists are offered to scan the QR code of an electronic immigration card. Thus, the airport management reduces queues at passport control. The map is available in English. If there are difficulties with filling out, tourists can contact the airport staff for help,” she explained.
